J...Another brilliant article, Frater, thank you :)

Just briefly, I think you have once again nailed it. The hexagram ritual as presented in the Regardie compilations is inadequate, and without a source of wisdom from a teacher or Temple, people will either experience what you did or simply make the motions. Sadly, this is what I lot of people do.

Personally, I follow the GD/RR et AC schema, though quite understand where you are coming from. Two points: Crowley’s appropriation of the Hexangle (which he called unicursal hexagram) into the planetary schema does then leave a difficulty for later advanced Enochian magic. This is because the hexangle refers to the four elements, spirit, sol and luna in that part of the tradition. If a student starts using the hexangle for planetary work, they will just have to unlearn it when required to use it in Enochian practice. Or create something of their own.

Secondly, the RR et AC does in fact use the Heptagram, and the outer form of this is shown in the Zelator ceremony. The ritual of the Heptagram of Seven Days assigns the planets like you suggest, as well as other correspondences to the seven points. I have not yet seen a full published copy of this ritual.

The difference, I feel between your presentation of the Septagram as symbol of the Macrocosm and the RR et AC use of the Hexagram lies in the central point. In the RR et AC, the various planetary and other forces in the Hexagram are unified and draw direction from the central sol point. In the Heptagram of Seven Days the central space (left empty) is referred to the Sun behind the Sun, the Dog Star, Sirius and is thus working at a deeper level. So to my mind both Hexagram and Heptagram represent the Macrocosm but the Heptagram does so on deeper level, and is used to mediate the powers of and beyond Daath in Briah, as well as non-human intelligences.

As to the question of when a student may innovate, I agree with you with one caveat; I feel they should honestly look for teachers to help them explain the aspects of the system they may be stuck with before changing it. Even if it means associating with people they may not be initially drawn to. Often, the reasons why something is the way it is can be opaque until taught some inner keys :)

Thanks again, Frater… love this Blog :)Peregrinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09508191641503321789noreply@blogger.com
